About: Gehinnom is the name of a valley just outside Jerusalem. In ancient times, followers of the proto-Judean Canaanite gods used this spot to sacrifice infants to their deities. Later on, it was used as a burn site for the corpses of rival armies, and later still, it became the dumping grounds of Jerusalem where all waste, animal carcasses and even the bodies of criminals were consumed by flame. The name Gehinnom became synonymous with the concept of Hell itself. To adopt the name is to descend into the fires – to embody brutality, and to internalize cruelty, absurd in its wantonness.
